To the right, summer dawn wakes up the leaves and the mists and
the sounds in this corner of the park, and to the left the slopes
contain in their purplish shad the thousand swift ruts of the
sloshy road. Parade of fairies! Here they come: floats loaded
with golden wooden animals, poles and bright-painted posters
vibrating to the frenzied gallop of twenty dappled circus horses,
and children, and men, on their most fantastic beasts;--twenty
embossed wagons decorated with flags and flowers like ancient
fairy tale coaches, full of children decked out for an outing in
the suburbs.--Even coffins under pitch-dark canopes with jet-black
plumes, zooming along to the trot of huge mares, all black and blue.
