The Mirror
THE MIRROR

Standing where she'd stood before
She touched the tarnished frame
She gazed into the mirrored glass
But nothing was the same

Where was the girl that once was there
So many years ago?
Her eyes stared deep into the glass
If only it would show. . . .

The youthful face, that pretty smile
Those shining eyes of blue
When life was full and filled with hope
And dreams of love rang true

When lullabies were sung till dawn
And warmth was all around
When loving hands caressed her own
And true content was found

She knew her eyes would never see
These shadows of her past
But in her heart. . . the memories
Were there behind the mask
